Trentin sixth in stage 12 Giro after day in breakaway

Matteo Trentin from Tudor Pro Cycling finished in the top 10 on stage 12 after a long and fast ride on Thursday in the Giro d'Italia.

The Italian cyclist had targeted stage 12 since the beginning of the Grand Tour. However, he was not the only one focused on performing today. It was a fierce battle among breakaway specialists to get into the group of escapees that were most likely to hold on to the finish line in the 'wall stage' of the Giro.

There were several short and steep hills to overcome in the 193-kilometer-long stage from Martinsicuro to Fano. The former European champion found himself in a massive breakaway together with teammate Alexander Kamp before the group was reduced in numbers over halfway into the stage.

Ultimately, Trentin won the sprint of a small chasing group, finishing sixth. The Giro d'Italia continues with a flat stage on Friday—an excellent opportunity for Alberto Dainese, Tudor Pro Cycling's sprinter.
